Rural Sourcing To Open Technology Development Center in Greenville, N.C.
March 2005
Rural Sourcing, Inc. (RSI) an information technology company offering IT (information
technology) services for U.S. corporations is opening a development center in Greenville,
N.C. RSI is committed to hiring experienced IT professionals from the region as well as
graduates from East Carolina University and other neighboring universities and colleges.
As part of RSI’s commitment to the region, internships will be offered to juniors and
seniors majoring in information technology and related areas.
“Greenville is an area rich in programming talent and East Carolina University is a
respected academic institution with a distinguished faculty and state-of-the-art IT
facilities,” said Dr. Kathy Brittian White, founder of Rural Sourcing and the former
Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer of Cardinal Health. “With strong
support from both the University and the area’s economic development leadership, I
expect this to be among our largest centers, employing over 100 IT professionals.
The opening of the Greenville Center, slated for May, is part of RSI’s strategy to open as
many as 50 technology development centers in rural areas over the next five years. These
centers will operate in lower-cost regions of the United States that are home to strong
regional universities that offer information technology and computer science degrees.
RSI draws professionals of varied backgrounds including new college graduates,
experienced IT professionals eager to return to their small town roots or people simply
excited about Rural Sourcing’s mission to stem the loss of U.S. IT jobs offshore.
“We look forward to having Rural Sourcing as part of our corporate community,” says
John Chaffee, Executive Director of the Pitt County Development Commission. “RSI
holds the promise of quality jobs and enhances our growing group of technology-based
companies. Whether life science of information technology, those companies provide the
jobs of the future for our residents. I applaud UNC system President Molly Broad for
encouraging our universities to become more engaged in the economic development
process and Chancellor Steve Ballard for making this type of activity a high priority at
ECU.”
Rick Niswander, dean of the ECU College of Business added, “We are especially pleasedthat our faculty and students will be an important component of Rural Sourcing’s
development center. This is precisely the kink of cooperative venture that will provide
long-term economic and educational benefits to our students, the university, the
community, and the region.”
RSI fosters economic expansion and high technology employment opportunities in rural
regions of the United States. RSI uses the global outsourcing/offshoring model, which
has demonstrated that employees can produce high-quality work remotely, and applies it
to rural America. The company is a full-service IT provider, including development,
application and maintenance, and consulting. |
